Assistant Superintendent to Leave Hewlett-Woodmere Schools

Four principals also set to retire at the end of the school.

Several Hewlett-Woodmere School District administrators — including an assistant superintendent — will be retiring or leaving at the end of the school year.

Dr. Laura Seinfeld, who has served as the assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction for Hewlett-Woodmere School since 2010, will return to the Oyster Bay-East Norwich School District on July 1 to take the highest position there. She had previously worked in that district before coming to Hewlett-Woodmere.

Tom Russo, principal of Hewlett High School, also recently announced that he will be retiring on Aug. 31.

These new moves come in addition to the previously announced retirements of Woodmere Middle School Principal Rick Berkowitz, Franklin Early Childhood Center Principal Bonnie Epstein and Hewlett Elementary School Principal Sandra Pensak, whose last days at the district will be on June 30. Their replacements were previously announced.

Richard Mangeri, a Hewlett High School social studies teacher since 2001 who served as assistant principal of the summer school in 2012, will succeed Al Bauer as assistant principal of Hewlett High School.

Continuing its trend of appointing district-wide chairpersons, the district also recently announced the hiring of Anthony Murray — currently the Director of Mathematics, Computer Education and Technology for the West Hempstead School District — as the P-12 Chairperson of Mathematics, effective July 1.
