Lecture: Orientalism & New York - A 19th Century Love Affair

Architectural Historian Barry Lewis of 'Walking Tours' of NYC on PBS will present this lecture.

Before all the battles and bitter politics, westerners had a love affair with the Middle East. In the 19th century it was seen as a Shangri-la of art, architecture, music, and crafts that, in turn, influenced the emerging modern design in the West. In New York City you can still trace the results of that love affair from the 7th Regiment Armory's Tiffany Room to the decorative tile work and the arabesque designs built into the structures of Central Park.
