PreK Orientation Meeting

The Hewlett-Woodmere School District is pleased to announce that there will be a welcome to Pre Kindergarten Orientation Meeting at the Franklin Early Childhood Center (FECC). It will be held in the gym at 10:00 am for parents of children who will be four years old on or before December 1, 2012. 

The program will be led by Bonnie Epstein, Franklin Early Childhood Principal for Hewlett-Woodmere, and will include a PTA guided tour of the building.  Programs for PreKindergarten children are as follows:

The district is a participant in the NYS funded Universal PreKindergarten program (UPK), which provides the district with the opportunity to collaborate with qualified   community-based organizations that offer PreKindergarten programs.

PreKindergarten is a half-day program sponsored by the school district for all children eligible for Kindergarten the following September.   Parents are responsible for transportation of their children to and from this program.  A certified teacher is in charge of each session assisted by a teacher aide.

PLUS Program allows children attending the half-day PreKindergarten program at the Franklin Early Childhood Center the opportunity to extend their day at FECC.   The PLUS Program, which is offered through the Department of Community Services, is tuition based.

The Before school and after school programs at the Franklin Early Childhood Center are offered in cooperation with the Five Towns Community Center.  These programs, primarily for children of working parents, are offered every school morning from 7:00 AM to 9:30 AM (includes breakfast) and from 3:00 PM to 5:45 PM after school. There is a fee for these programs.
