Hewlett Teen Wins 'Princess' Prom Makeover

A Hewlett High School senior will get a full makeover package Wednesday morning before she heads off to the prom that night, courtesy of a Hewlett-based clothing design company.

Crystal Suarez, of Hewlett, won the makeover by writing the winning essay in a contest sponsored by Served Fresh, which designs t-shirts and other clothing. She shared her experiences of her youth living in Brooklyn and experiencing a culture shock when moving to the Five Towns during her high school years. She will be attending Adelphi University this fall where she hopes to pursue a career as a nurse anesthetist or neonatal nurse.

“I’m so excited. It’s just perfect,” Suarez told Patch. “I’m just grateful to have this opportunity and win.”

The teen will receive a dress, shoes, manicure/pedicure, hair and makeup styling, jewelry, flowers and a photo shoot.

Served Fresh was established September of last year by a Hewlett family that wishes to remain anonymous. They started by designing shirts in support of President Barack Obama’s reelection and expanded their collection over the past several months. The company is now featured in five stores, including two in Nassau County. The makeover contest was held to celebrate Served Fresh’s success so far.

“We said we should give something back to the community,” said the operations manager of the company. “I remember in high school that a lot of my friends couldn’t afford [prom].”

She added, “[Crystal is] a very wonderful young lady. She’s very driven and intelligent. We’re excited to be able to make her feel like a princess for a day.”

The other contest sponsors are ASTONishing Photos, Artistry By Nicky M.A.C Certified MUA, Hair Fabulosity Hair Stylist, Black Rose Boutique, The Wright Sparkle/Style Zone and D's On the Spot Nails.
