Hewlett-Woodmere Board Elects New President, VP

As the Hewlett-Woodmere School Board welcomed its fifth newest member in three years on Tuesday, its members also selected new board leaders to reflect its transition.

Scott McInnes and Cheryl May, who were elected as trustees in 2011, have been named president and vice president of the board, respectively. McInnes succeeds Stephanie Gould, who served as board president for several years. She did not seek reelection.

“I consider it an honor and a privilege to have been elected as the new president of the Hewlett-Woodmere Board of Education,” McInnes said. “Cheryl and I have had a great working relationship since we ran together for the board and I know that relationship will help to make this transition that much smoother.”

May echoed McInnes’ comments.

“I have a great working relationship with Scott and look forward to working with him in our new capacity of president and vice president of the board of education,” she said. “We will continue to work diligently for the children of Hewlett-Woodmere. We know that the education climate in New York State is constantly changing, but we are up for the challenges that lie ahead!”

Prior to McInnes’ and May’s election to the board, the newest member of the board was Harold Kislik, who became a trustee in 2004. Stephen Witt has been on the board for about three decades.

In 2012, Melissa Gates’ and Dr. Jonathan Altus’ election to the board marked a tipping point of new members. Mitchell Greebel was sworn in as the newest trustee on Tuesday.

“Although we are a relatively 'new' board, I think we have an incredible governance team in Hewlett-Woodmere,” McInnes said. “This is a group of people who take their responsibilities very seriously and who will work diligently to do the best job we can, despite increasingly challenging times, on behalf of the students and residents of the Hewlett-Woodmere School District.”
