Two students of Five Towns schools last week received the prestigious honor of being named semifinalists in Intel’s national science research competition.
Nathan Akhavan, 17, of Plainview, a senior at Rambam Mesivta, and Abraham Killanin, 18, of Inwood, a senior at Lawrence High School, each won $1,000 for their projects in the Intel Science Talent Search. Both aspire to become doctors. Killanin said he wants to become a pediatric neurologist.
In all, Intel awarded 57 Long Island students.
Patch spoke with both students at Lawrence High School on Tuesday, as well as with their teacher, Rebecca Isseroff.
