Lawrence School District voters took to the polls Monday and voted overwhelmingly in favor of selling a closed school.

80 percent of a total 2,317 voters approved the sale of Woodmere's No. 6 School to Hebrew Academy of Long Beach for $8.5 million.

"This is the right transaction for District 15 [Lawrence], this is the right transaction for the Hebrew Academy of Long Beach and this is the right transaction for all of our new neighbors who will continue to enjoy the fields, playgrounds and open spaces," Hebrew Academy board president Lance Hirt told Newsday.
