HAFTR Girls JV B-ball Team Wins Championship

First conference victory for team in nine years.

The HAFTR JV Lady HAWKS defeated the Hillel Hurricanes in a nail biter for the league championship title — the first for the team in nine years.

The March 14 championship game ended in HAFTR’s favor with a final score 38-37. Andi Koppelman and Erika Zauderer coach the team.

“The girls have been an amazing team on and off the court,” Koppelman told Patch. “The unity and trust that the girls have in one an other is truly amazing. We had a lot of wonderful players all year. This championship was a truly team effort of all the girls.”

Here is Koppelman’s account of the game:

“We played Hillel from Deal, NJ. They were an undefeated team that also had 11th graders. The game was back and forth the entire way without either team leading by more than four the whole way. It came down to the last 32 seconds. We had scored and gone up by four. They rebounded the ball, scored, got fouled and only hit one. It was a nail bitter until the final two seconds! My girls deserved this win. They fought hard the whole game and it showed.”
