Hewlett Pitching Bests New Hyde Park, 2-0

Hewlett's coach called this the best game the team has played in two years.

Hewlett baseball defeated New Hyde Park on Wednesday 2-0 in a battle of the pitchers with the Bulldogs' Spencer Prusack pitching a no-hitter and the Gladiators' Anthony Simone maintaining a no-hitter until the seventh inning.

Heroes: This was Prusack's first no-hitter, according to Hewlett coach Andy DeBernardo. The pitching made this game and Prusack's role was vital to his team's win.

For New Hyde Park, apart from Simone's efforts on the mound, Kevin Towey made some great moves. He tried rounding the bases in the fourth inning but after landing on first, he tried to steal second but then got called out at third.

Turning point: Hewlett's first run came in the third inning by Mike Piri and the game was theirs from then on. The second run was scored by Alex Bernstein in the seventh inning.

Quotable: Though DeBernardo didn't know what exactly did it, he said that his team came out with "a little bounce in their step" and called this "the best game they've played in two years."

DeBernardo added that Simone did a "whale of a job" pitching for New Hyde Park and that the team is much better than their record.

New Hyde Park coach Doug Robins noted that his team hit some of their balls hard but ultimately the "very well pitched" game made the difference.

Who's Next? New Hyde Park will play Garden City away on Monday at 12 p.m. Hewlett's next A-I conference game is against Division on Monday at 10:30 a.m.
