Video: Two from Lawrence Set to Play in Empire Challenge Football Game

Will represent Long Island in annual all-star game.

Two Lawrence seniors will play in the annual Empire Challenge all-star football game Tuesday, June 21 at Hofstra University.

Karim Mohamed and Seidrik Ervin will represent Long Island on the gridiron one last time as high school students as they look to beat the New York City team in the game meant to raise awareness for cystic fibrosis and youth football for the Boomer Esiason Foundation.

Mohamed, who will play center in the game, is headed to play Division I-AA football at Stony Brook. Ervin will be a receiver and is undecided on college.

“I worked hard so it’s a good reward,” Mohamed said. “They have some big guys, but I’m just looking to win. That’s the most important thing in my book.”

There have been 28 other players from Lawrence who have been selected for the game since its inception 16 years ago.
