A Woodmere man helped lead the United States 18-and-under men’s basketball team to gold at the recent 19th World Maccabiah Games in Israel.
Elliot Steinmetz served as assistant coach to the U.S. team, which dominated its tournament, ending with a perfect record after beating nine other teams during the three-week competition.
“The experience coaching at the World Maccabiah Games is one of the most rewarding I have ever had, both from a basketball and cultural perspective,” Steinmetz said.
The team consisted of 12 players from around the country, many of whom will be playing Division I NCAA Basketball during the upcoming school year.
Steinmetz, who works for Uniondale-based Arbor Realty Trust, also serves as head coach of Great Neck-based North Shore Hebrew Academy High School boys team.
