My Favorite Thanksgiving Beverage & Thoughts of the Week

Autumn Sangria, book rec, punk covers, why doesn't anyone care that there are no more mix tapes...

Just a few days to go until Thanksgiving.

What comes to mind ... turkey, sweet potato & marshmallows, stuffing. And, of course, Autumn Sangria!! Got a few texts today asking for the recipe, figured it's easier to share this way, making sure everybody gets the joy of reading my random thoughts in the process.

So I'll get to the recipe in a second.

What I'm thinking about this week:

Spotify. My daughter just spent like 2 hours with me showing me music she likes, and I showed her all my favorite punk covers of 80's music. Right now I'm listening to "It's Not Unusual" by Five Iron Frenzy. It's awesome & I highly reccomend it. I tried explaining to her the idea of mix tapes we used to make for friends. Sad nobody does that anymore. Closest I had was a few years ago my brother in law made me a CD of Ramones songs, which I loved. So if anyone out there wants to make me a mix, be it on Spotify, CD, whatever, I'll take it!

I'm also thinking about the 119 point word I scored on Words With Friends. Sorry, had to mention it.

For the people who ask me for book suggestions, I must tell you to read The Sense of an Ending by Julian Barnes. I finished it yesterday, still thinking about it, even though I just started rereading Anna Karenina since I haven't read it in about 20 years, wanted a refresher before I see the film.

OK now here's the recipe, you will probably want to double it, it goes quickly!!

Autumn Sangria

3 cups dried fruit (for white wine use dried peaches, figs, mango. With red wine I like dried cherries in the mix. You can use whatever dried fruit you prefer), 1 large bottle of wine, 1/4 cup honey, peeled & chopped fresh apple, 1 bottle sparking apple cider

In large pitcher place dried fruit, wine & honey.  Let marinate in refrigerator overnight or a few hours. Before serving add apple & cider.

Enjoy & have a very Happy Thanksgiving!
