When someone prefaces a sentence with "the thing with you is...", you know it's not usually good.
You pretty much know it's NOT going to be "the thing with you is that YOU"RE AWESOME!!!" Or, "the thing with you is YOU LOOK HOT TODAY!!!".
Nope. It's usually to describe some horrible personality flaw that of course you never realized you have.
Like, maybe you interrupt people constantly (check!).
Perhaps you repeat your repetoire of funny (to you) stories (check!)
But this is not the personality flaw of mine said friend was referring to.
We were out for dinner with friends, and the conversation was revolving around a camping trip. My son (B) reeeeaaalllyyyyy wants to go camping. I have never gone camping (closest would be sleep away camp), & don't know that I want to start. My husband (J) will happily take the son camping while my daughter & I do other activities. So, the friends we were out with are avid campers (does that sound right?), and plan is for J & B to go camping with them.
Anyway, the camping friends like to tease me about my aversion to dirt, bugs, public bathrooms, and other reasons I have not participated in this exciting opportunity. I good naturedly accept all their witty banter, until this-
D (let's call her D since that's what her name starts with!) adamantly suggests they all go camping except for me, and that I should stay home alone, wouldn't I appreciate having my house to myself?
Ummmm no!!!!!!!!!!
S (let's call him that since that's what his name starts with!) said "the thing with you.." yes, can't wait to hear it, please go on... "Stacey, the thing with you is that you would go camping because you would feel bad for not trying it, and because everyone else was going, but you would never want to go again".
Ummmm yeah!!!!!
But how is that a bad thing?
I think it shows that I'm willing to give things a chance, to put my family & friends first by trying to have a good time doing something wayyy out of my comfort zone!
Well, the camping trip & who will be on it is not yet resolved...
Although B is looking to buy a machete on the camping supplies website.
And if someone ever starts a sentence to you with "the thing about you is.."
just refer them to ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
