I sat down today with my absentee ballot, to finally vote for who I thought were "the lesser of two evils" among the candidates. But I was really surprised that on the back of the ballot there are six State-wide Propositions we're voting on. They're pretty complex, and I spent the afternoon on the web trying to find out some facts to make an educated choice. It wasn't as easy as I thought. These are important things -- allowing casino gambling, later retirement age for *some* judges, giving up state park lands, Veterans' Benefits, etc. Only one or two I thought I could decide, but even those were confusing. Giving up Adirondack forest land to a mining company??? I figured absolutely not. But it turns out conservation groups are split on that one. Casino gambling? I read that the Legislature has already passed an alternative plan if that one fails. Please try to read up on these things so you're not sideswiped like I was today. It's a shame there's been hardly any publicity about these things being on the ballot. .... The Home Page of the League of Women Voters has a link to a PDF on the proposals. Unfortunately, the original is a brochure with blue ink, a little hard to read on a computer ...
... The same exact thing reprinted by a political group, easier to read ...
