As a daily commuter for more than 25 years, I think I have a good insight into the daily operations of the LIRR.
The service has been running for almost 100 years. One would think that in that time every possible problem affecting service has been encountered.
How is it that the cost of riding the railroad continues to rise and the service only gets worse? The stations have not moved and the rails are still in same places they have always been. So why is it that every glitch in the system seems to throw the whole operation into chaos?

The French and Japanese have fully modernized their rail systems, as has most of the industrialized world — but the LIRR continues to operate in the 19th century.
It makes me wonder.
