Firefighters from the Five Towns and Valley Stream will march down Central Avenue on Saturday for the annual Third Battalion parade.
The Aug. 3 parade, starting at 6 p.m., will see about 300 firefighters and 25 trucks from the Hewlett, Lawrence-Cedarhurst, Inwood, Meadowmere Park, Valley Stream and Woodmere fire departments go from Grove Avenue to the LCFD building, according to Chief John McHugh. Additionally, two departments from upstate New York — Arlington and Port Crane — who assisted during Hurricane Sandy will also participate.

“We work together, we’re in the same battalion, so it’s the opportunity for us to get together. It’s a morale booster,” McHugh said. “The volunteer fire departments are a big part of the community. Everybody loves a parade.”
The parade, which switches location every year, is expected to last about a half hour. A block party will follow near the firehouse, where there will be a barbecue and desserts. T-shirts will also be available for sale.Find out what's happening in Five Townswith free, real-time updates from Patch.
