Second Arts Below Sunrise Festival Takes Place Sunday

After last year’s successful premiere event, the Hewlett-Woodmere Public Schools Endowment Fund this Sunday will once again host Arts Below Sunrise, a street fair along Broadway.

This Sunday’s event, between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m., will be bigger than last year’s, as the festival now extends from the Hewlett-Woodmere Public Library to Irving Place to accommodate more craft and food vendors. There will be carnival games and music, with two stages in the parking lot at Johnson Place to reduce time between acts.

“Our goal is to develop Arts Below Sunrise into an exciting annual event that will spark the development of Hewlett-Woodmere as an arts destination on Long Island,” says a statement from HWPSEF.

The event supports HWPSEF, an organization of alumni, educators, families, and friends of Hewlett-Woodmere Public Schools. Its goal is to provide grants for things that don’t fit in the school district’s budget.

Arts Below Sunrise will be staffed by community volunteers from HWPSEF, high school and middle school youth leadership forums, Hewlett-Woodmere Business Association, Five Towns Community Chest, Hewlett-Woodmere Public Library, School District 14, Hewlett and Woodmere Fire Departments, auxiliary police and local supporters.
