Extremely well written. We will be voting for you. Thank you for thinking about the " theRead More public " - given that the public are the tax payers and transparency should be number one on the priority list. JM

The biggest problem facing the district is an imaginary problem at the Middle School? Love Canal?Read More Not our taxes, insane testing, or the unfunded mandates imposed on the district by the State and Federal governments? Question for Fred: How many board meetings did you attend in the last year? When you ran last year the answer for the previous year was none, so I'm wondering how many you attended this year to familiarize yourself with all of the REAL issues facing our schools. Did you go to any of the budget meetings? How can you credibly ask the voters to elect you to the board when you haven't even taken the time to find out what's really going on, and instead make wild claims about the Middle School being Love canal. We need trustees who care enough about this community to be involved even before being elected, not perennial candidates who keep throwing their hat in the ring but never even bother to go see what is really going on. Kislik was one of the most reasonable voices on the old board and Greebel has been president of TWO different PTA units, including Central Council. Those are the kinds of people I want running the schools my kids attend, not someone who sits at home in front of his computer playing with his website.

The district can use social media to increase discussion. Meetings, while necessary, do not offerRead More residents convenience in participating in the decision making process. Instead, the district remains limited in creativity and innovation. Sad.

Why won't the BOE take a public position on the inappropriate application of the NYS "clergyRead More exemption" on PRIVATE homes of clergy? Does the BOE care about taxation fairness to all district residents? Their position apparently is "it's not my job". It may not be, but a refusal to express an opinion to state reps is gutless.

Why doesn't the district take a position on the inflated, flawed application of NYS "clergyRead More "exemption on private homes that allows an average exemption of $12,000 in our district ? Only in Nassau County does the $1,500 statewide exemption become thousands more . There are over 40 such exemptions in UFSD #14. The district's response when informed of this was essentially "it's not my job" to take a position opposing this injustice.

I'm not trying to take money away from any business, especially if it's a local one, but $10,000 forRead More calendars? Is that the printing charge or the web development charge? If it's the printing charge, haven't we gone green? If they must be printed, maybe we can get a business to sponsor the calendar. Each vendor can get a month. If we are truly green, and we're paying for the web developer, I'm sure we have some really bright, tech savvy juniors & seniors that could do it as a project. Also, I am 100% in favor of teaching students CPR-in a crisis, the more helping hands you have the better. Did anyone reach out to the Red Cross? I seem to remember a few of my teachers were getting their certification and the R.C. sent someone in to train them. As the School Bus. Mgr. I don't remember paying for it, but maybe it was arranged through the UFT or NYC DOE. I guess my question, and I am not in the meetings, so I don't know if it's ever been brought up, but are we as a community so used to paying for everything out of pocket that we don't know that there are grants, businesses and organizations whose mission statement is to help schools. If we've already applied and been denied, that's one thing. I just hope we're not going to the taxpayers before exhausting other options.

Why not use your influence to fix the traffic on 878 and Rockaway turnpike? Or maybe do somethingRead More about the garden center in Inwoods customers blocking Mott Avenue and side streets daily? Tried to drive down Mott Avenue and got stuck for 20 minute as Gardeners loaded trucks in street. Or maybe do something about the litter in the streets? Or is this just a coalition to save a ball field?

LIers are grateful for your efforts! But the question still lingers... Why are upstate parksRead More getting the lion's share of the loot while downstate parks must actively seek volunteers to maintain them? where's the parity?
