Cops Arrest Two in Gang Related Attempted Murder

Two of three suspects arrested on attempted murder and gang assault charges relating to February incident in Inwood.

Nassau Police have arrested two men in connection with a gang-related attempted murder in Inwood in February.

According to detectives, a 23-year-old male victim was at the Carisma Restaurant at 199 Mott Ave. in Lawrence on Feb. 23 at 4 a.m. when he observed Erick Pelaez, 27, of North Lawrence, Sergio Acosta, 18, of Inwood and a yet to be apprehended male also in the establishment.

The victim walked home and as he was approaching his residence on Clinton Avenue in Inwood the two defendants and third subject allegedly struck the victim repeatedly about the body. The three males then dragged the victim behind a residence on Clinton Avenue and stabbed him multiple times, police reported. 

The defendants and subject then fled the scene on foot southbound on Clinton Avenue. 

The victim was transported to an area hospital where he was admitted with stab wounds to the throat, arms and legs. 

On Saturday, May 4 at 2:21 p.m. defendant Pelaez was located on Mott Avenue in North Lawrence and taken into custody without incident.

Defendant Acosta was arrested at his residence on Friday night.

Both defendants were charged with Murder 2nd Degree (Attempt), Assault 1st Degree, Gang Assault 1st Degree and Possession of a Dangerous Weapon 4th Degree. Pelaez was arraigned on May 5, 2013 and Acosta will be arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead on Saturday.
