Hewlett Harbor Mayor Warns About Potential Pack of Wild Dogs

The Village of Hewlett Harbor sent out the following message on Wednesday morning:

Mark Weiss, mayor of the Village of Hewlett Harbor, asks that you please pay special attention to this important safety message.

It has come to the attention of the village that some residents have seen a pack of five wild dogs roaming Hewlett Harbor.

Coincidental with this, there have been reports that a few outdoor cats have been killed. There have been no reports of any human encounters with these dogs.

That said, we urge you to be on the lookout for these dogs and please report any citing to 911 and to Animal Control at 516-785-5220. After hours, call 516-538-1900. Do not attempt to confront the dogs yourself.

We suggest that you notify your children of this situation and we urge you to keep an eye on youngsters when they are outdoors.

The village is working with the police and Animal Control in an attempt to round up these dogs in a safe manner and we will alert you to any developments.

Thank you for your cooperation.
