Zomick's Passes July State Inspection

International kosher bakery passes second straight inspection after failing 10 of previous 17.

After failing nearly 60 percent of its inspections from 2005 to 2013, Zomick's Bakery passed its second consecutive inspection from the state's Department of Agriculture and Markets Tuesday afternoon.

Heading into Tuesday, the Inwood-based bakery had failed 10 of its last 17 inspections due to a vermin infestation that included cockroaches, beetles, mice and flies.

A spokesman for the Department of Agriculture of Markets confirmed the details of Tuesday's inspection were pending a final inspection report and were not available.

The internationally known kosher bakery denied reports that the location had a pest problem, but data from the state shows that the bakery failed inspections as recent as Oct. 4, 2012, when live cockroaches and beetles were found.

Prior to Tuesday's inspection, Zomick's also passed its inspection on Feb. 28, 2013. The bakery has never passed three consecutive inspections, according to data from the state.
